Most people don’t realize the cost of doing nothing has never been higher.
Not because life is harder.
But because life is easier.
Think about it:
You can make $40K a year and still watch every movie ever made.
You can make $60K a year and live like royalty with Netflix, DoorDash, and ChatGPT in your pocket.
You can make $100K a year and still feel like something’s missing.
So you rationalize the inaction:
“I’m fine. Life’s fine. I’ll get to that project later.”
But here’s the brutal truth:
The Easier Life Gets, The Easier It Is To Do Nothing
And the easier it is to do nothing, the fewer people do anything.
Which means the real opportunity today is this:
A little effort goes way farther than it used to.
This is Effort Arbitrage.
In A World Of Comfort And Convenience, Effort Becomes A High-Leverage Asset
Not talent.
Not luck.
Effort.
Because effort is rare.
And when something becomes rare—it becomes valuable.
Here’s How I Use This Idea In My Own Writing:
I don’t need to be the best writer in the world.
I just need to show up and publish while everyone else is binging Netflix and “figuring out their niche.” And because the cost of action is so low (thanks to AI), I can take more swings in less time with less effort.
So I get better faster.
I grow my audience faster.
And I learn faster than the people still overthinking their first sentence.
How You Can Use AI To Reduce The Cost Of Action
This is where things get interesting.
Writing used to be hard.
You had to wrestle every word onto the page. Outline by hand. Rewrite from scratch. And spend half the time just trying to “find your voice.”
Now?
You can:
You’ll be shocked how much output you can generate in 30 focused minutes a day.
The Secret Isn’t Working Harder. It’s Working Now.
Effort isn’t what burns people out.
It’s delay.
Waiting. Wondering. Sitting in the mushy middle.
Every year you wait to act, the people who did act look farther and farther away. But the truth is…
They’re not better than you.
They just moved first.
So the next time you catch yourself saying:
“I’ll start once I feel more ready…”
Ask yourself:
“Is this actually hard—or am I just addicted to comfort?”
Then write something.
Because effort compounds. And today, it compounds fast.
That’s it.
