Ahoy, Digital Writers!
Today, we are going to help you write succinct, clear, and enticing subject lines for an Educational Email Course (EEC) using ChatGPT.
So you can get readers to:
Click
Open your email
Read through to the very end
And then set an alarm, so they don’t miss the next email you send!
Unfortunately, when it comes to writing subject lines many writers think the “trick” is to be clever, not CLEAR.
Trying to be Clever, not CLEAR.
The reader doesn’t care how clever you are.
Because clever is confusing! And when you confuse the reader—you lose. They don’t open your email and they move on to the next one in a list of 237 unread messages in their inbox.
For example:
"Unlock the secrets of health!"
Intriguing? Maybe, but it's vague and doesn't tell the reader what's inside. What problem does this solve? What tangible and specific benefit will you get for reading?
Feels ignorable, right?
The subject line should grab attention and hint at what the reader can expect:
What’s in it for me? "Lose 10lbs in 30 days."
And what’s inside? “Free eBook”
Much better.
Be CLEAR, not clever.
BUT it’s not just being clever that trips up subject line writers.
4 Mistakes Every Email Subject Line Writer Makes
There are 4 mistakes that turn potential readers away before they even open your email.
Mistake #1: Long subject lines. If a subject line gets cut off before “the hook” is revealed, the chances of a reader clicking is very low. Why? Because they don't have a reason to!
Mistake #2: Formal tone. Your email is personal. What email are you more likely to open? The one from your friend, “Barbie movie tonight?!” or “Tax Strategies Inside?” Casual and clear win here.
Mistake #3: Ineffective hooks. There’s no need to re-invent the wheel. Use what’s been proven to work for 100’s of years! Promise a lot for a little or instantly! (Just make sure you are keeping the promise.)
Mistake #4: Ignoring the preview-text. The preview-text is the grey sentence next to the the subject line. It’s like a “whisper.” Hey…psst…here’s what’s inside. It’s the perfect way to reinforce your hook and set clear expectations for your email (without making your subject line too long).
The good news?
With a touch of ChatGPT, you can turn your subject lines and preview-text into irresistible invitations that elevate your Educational Email Course from just another email in the inbox to an email you reader can’t wait to open and avoid all these mistakes in 1 sitting!
