Ahoy, Digital Writers!
Arguably the most important part of the entire writing process is writing your headline.
And if your headline doesn’t…
STOP the reader in their tracks
Get them to pause, and think, “I need to read this”
Then click and give you their attention
You do not have an effective headline.
All Digital Writers should understand the fundamentals of writing headlines—because unless you understand the fundamentals, you won’t know what to ask ChatGPT to create on your behalf!
How do you write effective headlines?
A good headline must answer 3 questions:
What is this about? (the specific topic)
Who is this for? (the specific type of audience)
And why should they read it? (the specific promise/outcome)
It’s very important for your headline to “answer” all 3 of these for the reader, otherwise they aren’t going to know why they should give you their attention.
The problem with ChatGPT is it defaults to vague, flowery, “intangible” writing. As a result, 90% of headlines crafted by AI aren’t clear. They lack specificity. But the good news is once you understand what makes an “irresistible” headline, there’s no reason why ChatGPT can’t start writing and improving all of your headlines.
You just need to train it.
