Hey there, Digital Writers!

"The greatest thing by far is to be a master of metaphor." - Aristotle

Aristotle knew the power of explaining complicated ideas in a simple way, but for most of us, thinking of the perfect comparison feels like trying to catch smoke with our bare hands.

Creating metaphors is hard because:

  • Our brains get stuck in literal, jargon-filled thinking patterns

  • We struggle to find fresh comparisons that haven't been overused

  • We often lack the time to brainstorm and refine our metaphors

That’s why today, we’ll show you how to generate relatable metaphors using AI, so you can make your ideas clear, memorable, and made to stick in under 2-minutes.

Let’s dive in.

Metaphors vs. Analogies

Think about the last time a complex idea suddenly clicked for you.

Chances are, someone used a good metaphor or analogy to explain it. But what’s the difference?

An analogy compares two things to explain a concept. It often uses "like" or "as." Example: "Life is like a box of chocolates." On the other hand, a metaphor states that one thing is another thing. It's more direct and often more powerful. For example: "Time is a thief." It immediately conveys the idea that time passes quickly and often without us noticing – similar to how a thief might snatch something when we're not looking.

Metaphors work because they create a "mental hook" for your reader. But coming up with great metaphors isn't always easy.

This is where the Metaphor Maker Prompt comes in.

Here's the prompt you can use with ChatGPT, Claude, or your preferred LLM:
